From ANDRAS JONES: ANTHONY RAPP plays Paul Stamets in Star Trek Discovery. The real Paul Stamets is a world famous mycologist from Olympia, Washington. The real Anthony Rapp is an actor I met on the set of the film “Far From Home” which we shot on the salt flats where Burning Man is held. That was in 1989, the year before the festival started. In this Pop Oracle session we explore the synchronicity of Anthony’s role; surfing a mycelial web through the galaxy as the first openly gay Star Trek character; and the countless psychedelic gender-jamming rituals that have been performed on the site of our meeting in Gerlach, Nevada.
And then Anthony has to bring up the orange guy. I’m glad he did, and I think the answer we got from our musical guest ALEX LILLY was a perfect reflection of our hopes and our fears. In a nifty twist of sync, the release of this musical divination coincided with Michael Cohen’s congressional testimony calling Trump a “racist”, a “con man” and a “cheat”. How’s that for cold snap?
