From ROY IVY: Sasha Bell first caught my ear as a member of the venerable indie rock outfit, Essex Green, whom I used to steal off Napster and forgot to offer my apologies. Then she kept that ear with Ladybug Transistor (I bought the vinyl that time), and her new outfit, The Sasha Bell Band, might be her best band yet. As one of those Elephant 6 loving nerds, I’m shocked and ecstatic that she lives and performs in our Missoula, and is still crafting merry-go-round melodies that make you swoon.
Sasha’s question for the divination might get your imagination spinning for days. It’s sci-fi, but not at all farfetched. She asks the Pop Oracle about the probability of robots taking over the world (which we’re all counting on). The best part of this overthrow? All that’s left of mankind will be what Sasha calls the AAA: that’s Artists, Athletes, and the Annihilated. These are the A’s that can do what the robots can’t. We can create. We can bobsled. And, at least for now, we can have orgasms, which even the best of sex robots can’t achieve.
To which the Oracle responds with Beauts toe-tapping “Cast a Shadow.” It’s a song about yearning innocent love, which robots will never get the hang of.
