Marvin Etzioni
&
Marvin Etzioni

From ANDRAS JONES: And so we come to the close of our episode with MARVIN ETZIONI. For me, this episode was like a time machine, waking the dead and reminding me of dreams and feelings I don’t remember enough. While the past was hyper-present in this session, the present, whether in questions about the politics of the day, my newfound friendship with Marvin, or his youthful collaborators, was very much alive and beckoning our attention.  And to bring these all together, this episode concludes on the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Marvin and I are both hidden Jews in that our names do not immediately mark us. Mr. Etzioni can pass as Italian, and Mr. Jones can pass as…American I guess, but neither of us hides behind these names. In our work we are driven by the concept of “never again”, which makes Marvin’s question, and the song of his that answers it, all the more challenging. In a side sync note, over the last couple of days I have been the target of anti-semitic online harassment from some folks in Olympia and this is about as politically progressive a town as you can imagine. So, what’s the mood of the country now? It ain’t pretty.

What’s The Mood Of The Country Now

what’s the mood of the country now

what’s the mood of the country now

no matter what in the world i hear

i’m not gonna live my life in fear

when i see the news i cry sometime

an eye for an makes everyone blind

what’s the mood of the country now

what’s the mood of the country

day after day in a star spangled haze

Father, Father can you show me the way

what’s the mood of the country now

what’s the mood of the country now

don’t take candy from no stranger

unless he was born a baby in a manger

every breathing soul

every breathing soul

needs to live in peace

every breathing soul

every breathing soul

needs to live in peace

every breathing soul

every breathing soul
