From ANDRAS JONES: Having John as the musical guest for this show was a kind of completion for me after living inside one of his songs for so many years. Though it’s tempting for his question to invite speculation about his life I prefer to project myself into it and think about the things I can’t stop. Like John said, there’s more than one thing. The obvious addictions are an easy go to. Alcohol, coffee, my phone, constant media stimuli, my wank regimen. We all have something we use to distract ourselves from ourselves. But then the are the less obvious addictions, for example our addictions to certain ways of thinking and reacting. I have plenty of these too and, as with my other addictions, it’s a day to day battle to develop healthier relationships with the things I think I need. I am struck by the sync that John admits to having been subconsciously influenced by Dylan’s “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” on this song. In the same way, I have to wonder how much of what I think of as my personality is actually driven by cultural influences I’m unaware are influencing me.
