Unlike “the force”, which has a distinctly yang-y directional nature, good for levitating objects and blowing up Death Stars, The Pop Oracle has a powerful yin essence that envelopes us like a vast ocean that we are invited to surf upon but never to control. This is why we often refer to people who participate in Radio8Ball as “synchronicity surfers”.

The divination tool on our site, where guests are invited to ask and have their own question answered by a randomly chosen song, is also called a pop oracle. This device is filled with 78 songs that each correspond with a card from the tarot. The tarot we use is the Crowley-Thoth deck but the songs can be cross-referenced with any 78 card deck. The songs that fill this pop oracle were either recorded on Radio8Ball, or by artists who have been guests on the show, including several songs from R8B creator, Andras Jones, and his varied musical projects. We like our pop oracle a lot but anyone can make one, and we hope, in the future to see more of this kind of activity. (See the list below for the complete info on our current pop oracle).

Finally, the show itself, in all its facets, is a pop oracle. Since the synchronicities within each show take on different, sometimes greater, meaning as time passes, every aspect of the show has the potential to attract synchronicities that relate to a viewer or listener’s experience long after we have moved on to producing the next ones. In this way, Radio8Ball, which consults The Pop Oracle, and creates pop oracles is, itself, a pop oracle.

We know this might be confusing but there is an internal logic to it that will make more sense as you relax into the experience. You will know The Pop Oracle when she speaks to you.

The R8B Pop Oracle – November 2014

– The Fool – Andras Jones: Superlame
– The Magus – Sandman: Olympia’s The Capitol of Rock and Roll
– The High Priestess – Chain Austin: White Girl
– The Empress – Joni Mitchell: Be Cool
– The Emperor – Elvis Costello & The Brodsky Quartet: God Only Knows
– The Hierophant – Pete Townshend: Pure & Easy
– The Lovers – Amelie Julac: To The Heaving of Our Chests
– The Chariot – Choo Choo La Rouge: Say It Twice
– Adjustment – The Noses: Let’s Fix This Thing
– The Hermit – Andras Jones: Pajamas
– Fortune – The Kinetics: Money Tree
– Lust – Aimee Mann & Jon Brion: Nobody Does It Better
– The Hanged Man – Josh Clayton-Felt: Too Cool For This World
– Death – Andras Jones: Complicated O
– Art – The Grays: Everybody’s World
– The Devil – Andy Dick: Good Luck With That
– The Tower – Imogen Heap: Hide and Seek
– The Star – Lili Haydn: Elephant Trapeze
– The Moon – Deb Pasternak: Message For The Moon
– The Sun – Mr. Jones & The Previous (with Josh Clayton-Felt): The Sun
– The Aeon – Andras Jones: Mystery Behind
– The Universe – Scott Taylor: The Rainbow Connection
– Knight of Wands – Mr. Jones & The Previous: Shout
– Queen of Wands – Birdie Busch: The Sideshow
– Prince of Wands – Andras Jones & The Need: Child of Destiny
– Princess of Wands – Anya Marina: Another Think Coming
– Knight of Cups – Shmushkin: Christmas Cunnilingus
– Queen of Cups – Julie Christensen: Traveling Companion
– Prince of Cups – Mr. Jones & The Previous (with Julie Christensen): Who’s Gonna Make It Rain?
– Princess of Cups – Kelsie Love: Live For Today
– Knight of Swords – Hawksley Workman: Jealous of Your Cigarette
– Queen of Swords – The Owls: Air
– Prince of Swords – Bart Davenport: Airwaves
– Princess of Swords – Julia McAlee: Animals
– Knight of Disks – Spearhead: Stay Human
– Queen of Disks – Andrea Wittgens: Did You Go Too Far?
– Prince of Disks – Meredith Bragg: Work & Winter
– Princess of Disks – Veda Hille: A Fine Start
– Ace of Wands – Willie Wisely: Go!
– 2 of Wands (Dominion) – The Previous: Get Normal
– 3 of Wands (Virtue) – Andras Jones: UnNoticed
– 4 of Wands (Completion) – Bart Davenport: This Could Be The Night
– 5 of Wands (Strife) – Candypants: I Want A Pony
– 6 of Wands (Victory) – Rachel Ries: The Luckiest
– 7 of Wands (Valour) – Andras Jones: Three Day Weekend
– 8 of Wands (Swiftness) – Jon Brion: I Believe She’s Lying
– 9 of Wands (Strength) – Dan Bern: Lake
– 10 of Wands (Oppression) – Andras Jones: A Serious Sincere Question
– Ace of Cups – Mirah: Cold, Cold Water
– 2 of Cups (Love) – Veda Hille: Precious Heart
– 3 of Cups (Abundance) – Anya Marina: Three’s Company
– 4 of Cups (Luxury) – Scott Taylor: Too Much Rain
– 5 of Cups (Disappointment) – Mike Ruekberg: Years
– 6 of Cups (Pleasure) – Liz Phair: HWC
– 7 of Cups (Debauchery) – Paul Kotheimer: Everybody Smokes In Hell
– 8 of Cups (Indolence) – Paul Plagens: Wonderful Dead Guy
– 9 of Cups (Happiness) – Puffy Ami Yumi: Shiawase/Happiness
– 10 of Cups (Satiety) – Chuck E.
