From ANDRAS JONES: OPIUM MOON are LILI HAYDN, ITAI DISRAELI, HAMID SAEIDI & MB GORDY. They won a Grammy this year. I’ve known Lili since we were teenagers and I feel like I’ve been trying to set up a Radio8Ball session with her for about a decade. The guests Lili gathered to ask the Pop Oracle questions are impressive, soulful folks, many of whom also share a connection with Lili’s mom, the great LOTUS WEINSTOCK, of whom we talk a lot during our session. Lotus is no longer with us on this plane but clearly many of us still feel her impact. My question is inspired by one of the many wise things she shared with me when I was young and wide-eyed open.

Opium Moon are particularly interesting for our format because their music has no words, so you’re going to have to listen with a different part of your brain than usual. If you’re like me you’ll welcome this opportunity to slow things down.

For those of you following along, after last week’s episode with Pete Molinari, and the revelations disclosed during the last reading of that session, you may be wondering why we’re back at Starburns for this one. I won’t go into all the details but thanks to Dino Stamatopoulos we still have (or had) access to the Starburns Studio for this one but, again, for reasons I can’t detail without stirring up drama, this felt like a tight rope walk. Of course, the band had no idea and if you don’t think about it neither will you.
