  1. Pop Oracle song of the day for January 31st, 2015.

Yesterday’s randomly selected song “Goodbye Stalker” led to the stalker in question demanding I stop posting the song because it hurts her too much. This is a person who I have been begging to leave me alone for years, and who comes to Olympia three months out of every year to wage a campaign of seasonal stalking in my direction. Which brings us to Dominion and the 2 of Wands, in the form of my band’s “Get Normal” from a 1995 album about being bullied at Washington Middle School in Olympia, Washington.

Most of us have very little dominion in the world. We live under the sway of bosses, family, society, the economy and for some of us, stalkers and bullies. Where to go for dominion, and sense of owning your space? I’ve always gone to my art first. A song like “Get Normal” is one of the only good things I got out of Washington Middle School so I sing it, and play it, with a righteous pride that only the losers know. I don’t care if the administrators at Washington take issue with it. It’s true. It happened. It was obvious.

Same thing goes for “Goodbye Stalker” or my book “Accidental Initiations”. I had to make sense out of the situations that inspired them and the only way I could was to write it and sing it (and publish it). I bleed words.

Don’t ever ask me to “Get Normal”. Can’t do it.

  2. I asked if my dream to own a home would come true this summer. I’m thinking yes because it’s a super normal American, mother of 3 thing to do. Plus it’s the 2 of wands so it implies personal power to make this happen. Interesting.

  3. Fond memories…
